Truva is another name for Troy, the site of the battle between the Greeks and the Trojans when the Greeks left a wooden horse at the gates of Troy as an offering to Athena. The Trojans accepted the gift and, well, the rest is history.

The dark red, dare I call it maroon, exterior doesn’t exactly catch your attention but once inside you realise this is somewhere different. Coloured glass, decorative plates, woven hangings and wooden carvings decorate the walls with a hookah having pride of place in the corner.

The food is a mixture of the usual café offerings, all day breakfasts, salads, rolls, panini, ciabatta and hot foods with more exotic touches in the form of mezzes. These are a type of starter, for example stuffed vine leaves, houmous, olives, feta cheese, couscous and roasted vegetables. I had Arabic bread stuffed with roasted vegetables and houmous, which came with flavoursome couscous, a stuffed vine leaf (the tastiest I’ve ever had), creamy feta cheese, salad with yoghurt dressing and olives. An excellent mix of flavours. This is a wonderful place for vegetarians as they would have a huge choice. A Turkish coffee finished the meal, sweet and strong, served in a beautifully ornate cup with enough for a second cup in the ibrik in which it was made.

It was very busy, despite it being past the lunch hour, with a mix of regulars, visitors and workers from the local offices. The staff were attentive and friendly, contributing to a very enjoyable and unique experience.

Why would I go there?  A taste of the exotic!

Any Negatives?  Watching the traffic outside negotiating the junction is stressful at times.

Before or After:
1.
A walk around Leith to see the latest improvements and disasters.
2. A walk along the walkway beside the Water of Leith.
