The net curtains and flowers give The Village Coffee Shop an old fashioned promise of comfort and home bakes. On entering, this is enhanced by the floral table coverings and settings. Flowers take up any spare surface. Look around and you will see shelves holding memorabilia as far back as the war years. The music is slightly more modern, often classics from the 60s, or Tony Christie. The ladies who serve are extremely welcoming and if they are not too busy and you ask nicely they might rustle up your choice, even if it is not on the menu!
There is a wide-ranging menu of snack type fare including soups, scones, tray bakes, sponge, teacakes, toasties, baked potatoes, and sandwiches, all homemade. There are also various dishes of the day e.g. Cottage Pie, various Quiche and apple pie. I doubt you would not find something to tempt you. The cakes and so on are laid out on a sideboard and table and described by little, handwritten flags; passion cake, rocky road, and malteser bake, the list is endless. In fact this is more than a coffee shop.
The coffee is excellent and comes in a cafetiere and the tea with an old-fashioned tea strainer. The hot chocolate is enormous and comes with all the trimmings. The Village Coffee Shop also has a small selection of excellent Scottish beers.
Service can be inconsistent when it is busy. My suggestion, ask for your bill early! The staff has a curious reluctance to give you your bill, and accept your money. You may even have to queue to pay!
This is the café your grandmother used to take you to when you were little – if you are over fifty that is. But all ages will like it.

Why would I go there? Traditional coffee shop with 50s feel
Any Negatives? Yes - every so often someone will put on a Daniel O'Donnell tape!
Before or After:
1. Walk on Gullane Beach.
2. Walk all the way along Gullane Bents to Aberlady following the coast, through the bird sanctuary then back the same way or along the road past Lufness Golf Club.
3. Dirleton and Yellow Craigs are only 3 miles away. And there are golf courses everywhere.
