We visited Lochter on one of the coldest, driechest, most miserable days of the year. The warm, inviting glow from its conservatory dining area attracted our attention, and pulled us right in. We received a warm welcome and were directed through to the conservatory. Often on such days this can be a mistake, but not here, it was lovely and warm.

The menu included teas and coffees, excellent bakes brought to you on a trolley to make the problem of choice even more difficult: the lemon curd sponge was especially good. There are also homemade lunches available from noon until 2pm.

The coffee shop is part of a farm complex, which offers various outdoor and indoor activities. It is surrounded by man made lochs, one actually shaped like a trout, where fishermen can try their luck landing one. Even on the miserable day we were there, several men (women would never be so daft!) were standing by the side of the loch waiting for a bite. Various other activities are on offered as well, the more unusual of which include; digger driving (every young and not so young boy's dream), 'You are never too old’ days (my category!), paint ball jousting (whatever that might be) and the mule challenge!

Why would I go there?
Popular spot for locals dropping in and restful views.

Any Negatives? A bit out of the way but worth a visit.

Before or After:
1. Take a walk around the lochs. This is becoming more interesting as the plantings mature.
2. The fishery is a haven for wildlife including ducks and geese and swans in the winter and osprey also hunt here.
