Beautiful Mountain, The

 With a name like 'The Beautiful Mountain' and having received a ‘Healthy Eating’ award, we were intrigued to see what was on offer at this cafe in Belmont Street.

Downstairs is a take-away selling sandwiches, drinks and other edibles, mostly of a healthy persuasion. Upstairs is a smallish, narrow, L-shaped café tastefully decorated with pale green walls and dark furniture.

The sandwiches on offer are tailor made to your requirements. Not everything is ‘healthy’ but most are and these are noted. You choose your bread base which could be granary or a baguette, wholemeal, sourdough or a tortilla wrap and are mainly baked on the premises. Our choices were without exception, excellent. You then choose your filling. These included chicken, prawns, meats, eggs all in various guides and a large selection of non meat options such as avocado and roasted red peppers, spicy bean pate, various cheeses. Breakfast options are also available. To drink there were smoothies, freshly squeezed juices, various teas and coffees (refills half price). Finally, home bakes and pastries to satisfy a sweet tooth.

They note that if you are breastfeeding they can accommodate you in the restaurant or somewhere more private.

Finally, there is no mistaking the loos: the ladies are a bright pink and the gents an equally startling blue.
