Brambles' attractive front window features Grandma Bear in bed having breakfast. Are we to be treated to the story of the three bears inside? Alas no, but very strangely there are what appears to be three coffee shops within the premises.

Firstly, at the front, two of the old rooms have been knocked together to form a cosy, traditional coffee shop with stone walls, two fireplaces with stoves, wooden floors and the aforesaid granny bear reclining in bed, having breakfast in the window with her grandchildren in attendance – and a very prolific family it was!

At the back is a modern conservatory with wooden garden furniture looking out onto an attractive garden.

In the middle is a large area with dark red walls and a curious mix of tables many with tall, carved, baronial style chairs – surplus from the castle perhaps? Mr. B wondered if this was to cater for the bus groups that frequent the area throughout the year.

The front and back especially create a pleasant atmosphere with low lighting, tiffany lamps and Ella Fitzgerald singing softly in the background.

The home bakes are spread out attractively on a sideboard in the middle and offers a wide range of cakes, scones, pancakes and rock buns. There is also an all day breakfast including porridge, full meals and light snacks with roll mop herring and baked potatoes. It is licensed. My Italian coffee was very good but the tea wasn't appreciated as much!

Why should I go there? A choice of ambiance to suit your mood.
.
Any negatives? The middle area is rather barn-like especially if there are only a few customers.

Before or After:
1. A walk round the town is recommended with perhaps a visit to the 19th century Inveraray Jail and courtroom and its 'Torture, Death and Damnation Exhibition'. There's also the Inveraray Maritime Museum
2. Inveraray Castle is nearby and you can enjoy the grounds and walks for free.
