Situated half way between Oban and Fort William, Castle Stalker View Café could not have a more perfect situation looking out over Loch Linnhe with Castle Stalker below and the romantic island of Lismore beyond. There is a short walk down to a view point of the castle but it is barely better than the one you have sitting in the café.
The café is an octagonal building with large windows maximising the setting outside. It has a vaulted wooden ceiling, which adds to the open, airy aspect. Views of the area by local artists hang on the walls. There are two casual seating areas with coffee tables and leather sofas but the rest has wooden tables somewhat squeezed together.
A lovely little garden is outside the windows. It uses rounded stones from the shore and scattered throughout are clusters of flowers most of which are species native to the area.
A sign proclaims that ‘ everything on the menu is freshly prepared to order’. These include soups like carrot and sweet potato or broccoli and cauliflower, toasted panini, baked potatoes, cakes, meringues, do’nuts, empire biscuits.
Why would I go there? The view, the view, the view.
Any Negatives? It has a cafeteria feel. A place to stop but not to linger.
