This tea room is rather more than ‘just’ a tea room as it provides meals throughout the day as well. It was built in 1923 and is well known to cyclists and walkers alike. It  featured in the 1958 version of 'The 39 Steps' with Kenneth More. The walls are adorned with colour photographs of leisure cyclists in the 50s, enjoying the facilities. These are stills taken from the film!

It is a wooden building painted green on the outside, while inside, the wooden walls are left bare but for the varnish. I have not been there when it was windy but the windows don't look as if they would hold out much of a tempest! But long may the original look remain. With your coffee there are scones (apparently some of the older regulars recognise the scones on offer from the 1930s!!), pancakes and shortbread, but if you feel the need for something more substantial then there is baked potatoes, soup, main courses like cottage pie, lamb chop, omelette and trout. More a restaurant than a coffee shop, they are perfectly happy to blur the established meal times and serve coffee and scones at lunch time, should that be your preference.

Why would I go there? Lovely scenery and walks in the area.

Any Negatives? Not much in the cake line when we were there.

Before or After:
1. To the east of the town is a designated parking area with walks signposted.
2. Around the village are low level walks. See map inside the tearoom.
3. The tearoom is at the bottom of the road leading to Glen Finglas. The glen was once the favourite hunting and riding ground for the Stewart kings of Scotland, but a reservoir now covers a huge part of the glen. This is an area for the keen walker or mountain bike enthusiast.
