The old primary school of Ringford and Tongland has been beautifully done up to form an excellent tearoom. The old classroom divider has been left complete, with the lower wooden panelling and upper glass, to allow the Headmaster to keep an eye on the classes without entering. Old notices 'Headmaster' and 'Ladies Staffroom' remind us of how things have changed. Photos of classes down the years adorn the walls, from boys in knee breeches and girls in crocheted collars to the class of 1977. Memorabilia such as wooden skipping ropes, blackboard pointer and rulers and a row of tawse of varying strengths are exhibited.

Various gifts, candles, toys, pottery and glassware are displayed for sale, and the school theme continues with small gifts for teacher, such as picture frames with 'A+ teacher' or tags with 'thanks for teaching me to be my best’.

There is an interesting snack menu including breakfast toasties, French toast, and some fine scones and cakes.

An eclectic collection of tables and chairs add to the charm, while one corner provides some tourist information on the surrounding area. Outside there are tables and a small antique shop where you can even buy the Headmaster's lectern.

School was never like this.

Why would I go there? A step down memory lane (for some of us).

Any Negatives?  Could make you feel your age!

Before or After:
More of a stop en route to Stranraer, Gatehouse of Fleet or elswhere in the Dumfies and Galloway area.
